Why do your POM parts warp?

2026 02/18

When manufacturing precision parts, a common headache is the deformation of POM material after machining, even if the dimensions are perfect. This deformation can lead to assembly problems or functional malfunctions. Often, the issue isn't with the machining process itself, but rather with the material's internal stress.

You can think of internal stress as a kind of "hidden memory" within the material. During production and pre-processing, POM material stores internal stress. When machining, the heat generated by cutting "awakens" this memory, causing the material to slowly release the stress and revert to its original, "remembered" shape. The result is subtle deformation of the part.

Our solution: proactive management to prevent stress from ruining precision.

We don't try to fix things after completion; instead, we proactively manage internal stress throughout the entire process:

Starting with high-quality materials: We prioritize using pre-treated POM sheets, especially those from Anheda, which have undergone annealing (heat treatment). This is like building a house with a solid foundation – a more stable base.

A Key Step: Let the Material "Relax" When making complex or high-volume parts, don't finish them all at once. After rough machining, we recommend an annealing treatment. This step is specifically designed to eliminate new stresses generated during machining, allowing the material to completely "relax" and stabilize before precision machining. Although it adds an extra step, it results in permanent dimensional stability.

Gentle Machining Throughout: Even during finish machining, we control machining speed and temperature to minimize the generation of new stresses.

What You Get?

By controlling internal stress in this way, POM parts delivered that way not only have high precision at the factory but, more importantly, maintain long-term stability, durability, and reliability. This helps you reduce assembly problems, lower after-sales repair rates, and elevate the overall quality of your products.

Simply put, we focus more on early stabilization to avoid various problems later on.

If you are looking for dimensionally stable, long-term reliable POM parts, or are troubled by part deformation issues, please feel free to contact us. We can provide more specific advice based on your specific needs.
